“Excellent look at a WWII Marine, 5th Marine Division.”

“This book is extremely well written, and tells the story of two boys, lifetime friends. It is sad that one of those young men ’gave all’ that true hell, I know I stood on Mt. Suribachi in ’Boots’ Thomas’s foot prints. Many thanks to the author of this fine book.”

“A wonderful story of valor, sacrifice, and friendship.”

“I bought a hard copy of this book for my Uncle who is 94 years old and who knew both of these boys when they were young. A few days later I asked him how far he had gotten in the book; and he said that he had already finished it, that he couldn’t put it down. I got the book on Kindle for myself, and I felt the same way. It was truly hard to put it down. It is a well-researched and well-written book. I felt like I was there during the battle of Iwo Jima itself. The author did a very good job of weaving into the story first-hand accounts, journals, letters, and anything else she could find. Boots Thomas was a selfless young man to do what he did during WWII and to handle the press in the way he did. He is a hero that one would want their children to know about and emulate. As for the other young man, I know him personally. He spent over seventy years of his life making sure the memory of his friend continues. Do yourself a favor and read this book. Their stories are of the kind that made this country great. ”

“Forgotten Hero of Iwo Jima”

“I was particularly interested in this book because I’m a former Marine, and I’ve been fortunate over the years to meet a number of Iwo Jima survivors. This book was well researched and well written. Boots Thomas is a largely forgotten hero of Iwo; for example the ’Flags of Our Fathers’ movie chose to focus on Sergeant Mike Strank as the squad's senior NCO, and Thomas was not mentioned. This book was a fine addition to my USMC library.”

“Excellent Read!”

“This book captures the heart of a young man who found himself in the middle of the Second World War. Call Me No Hero brings to life what it was like to be a Marine from boot camp to the combat on Iwo Jima. Full of letters, first hand accounts, and other period material, you get a feel for what the combat on those bloody shores was like and a glimpse into the inspiring courage of the Marines. ”

“Mighty, Mighty Good Read!”

“Excellent presentation of the life of this American Hero. I was completely saturated with wonder through the book! ”
